MELBOURNE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, July 2, 2015, Dr. David A. Young, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Melbourne Orthopaedic Group, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Orthopaedic Surgery. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only small selections of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. A respected orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Young truly enjoys seeing athletes return to their sports after injury. He draws upon more than four decades of medical experience in his role with Melbourne Orthopaedic Group, where he specializes in sports medicine, arthritis surgery and hip preservation surgery. Dr. Young is committed to developing and teaching hip arthroscopic surgery techniques, and passionate about contributing to advances in orthopaedics. He has conducted extensive research in the areas of knee ligament injuries, patellar instability problems, and the management of stress fractures in athletes. In addition to his work in private practice, Dr. Young is the orthopaedic surgeon to the Western Bulldogs, an Australian Rules Football team. He also provides consulting services regarding orthopaedic surgery to the Australian and Victorian Institutes of Sports and Netball Australia.
Dr. Young earned an MBBS from Melbourne University in 1973 and then went on to complete orthopaedic surgical training in Melbourne. He then completed a fellowship in surgical training at Bristol Royal Infirmary in England. After training, Dr. Young returned to Melbourne in 1984 to join the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group. He spent 10 years as a visiting orthopedic surgeon at the Alfred Hospital.
A fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, Dr. Young maintains membership with the Australian Arthroplasty Association, Australian Knee Society, American Orthopedic Surgery Association, and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He is also active in philanthropic work, serving as chairman of the 20th Man Fund and the Foundation for Supporting the National Trauma Service in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he supports causes that assist disadvantaged and impoverished youth. When he is not working or volunteering, Dr.Young enjoys spending time with his wife, four children and five grandchildren.
